A-PDF OCR is an above-average OCR tool that can turn any PDF document, image file, or any text coming directly from your scanner into editable text. Its OCR engine is of a high standard, and its algorithm produces an extremely low number of misspellings. However, as it always happens with Optical Character Recognition utilities, the quality of the output will heavily depend on the quality of the input image.
The program interface is basically a two-panel window where you can see and compare both the original text and the OCR output. The OCRed text will first appear as a plain text with very little or no formatting, where you can make the necessary corrections (conveniently highlighted by the program) before moving to the more familiar environment of its MS Word-like, full-featured text editor. Here you can give the layout and lost formatting features back to your text , in order to make it look more like the original document.
The OCR process is both fast and efficient, especially when dealing with already existing documents - be it a PDF document, or an image file (JPEG, BMP, TIFF, etc.). However, to truly appreciate the beauty of this tool, I recommend you to use a scanned piece of text as input for your A-PDF OCR. Here, and before applying the OCR technology, you can improve the expected output improving the input. You can deskew and/or rotate the text until it is perfectly aligned, and you can crop any part of the image to make sure that only the text in that specific part is being OCRed. These little adjustments will result in the lowest number of mistakes possible in your output text.
